There are a range of Open Licences for content. The most commonly used are the Creative Commons (CC) licences. This module will briefly introduce you to Open Licences.

The conditions are assembled into a license that can vary from very open to less open. Examples that illustrate the continuum from "All rights reserved" to "No rights reserved" is illustrated in the next diagram:

You have created a piece of work in your institution. It might be an article that you have written, a concept document, an essay, a lesson, or a worksheet. You want to explore an open copyright (cc) or 'copyleft' licence for your work.
Use the Creative Commons Licence Chooser at: http://creativecommons.org/choose/ and work through the steps to see whcih licence is the best suited for your work.
Note: If your country does not appear on the drop down list, choose international. That means that your country has no CC-licence framework. You can still use the international framework.
It is very easy to get a licence for your work. Also see how you can use the CC-licence logo.
Discuss your licence with fellow colleagues.
